Paris Opéra audience et al. in Palais Garnier - 1945
from Unfinished Journey, page 177:
The reopening of the Opéra, the first chance of playing the Marsellaise since mid-1940, raised the occasion to a national, to an almost mystic significance. I don’t know who was the more thoroughly affected, the audience or myself and the other musicians on stage: it seemed our hearts would break together for gladness.
