Yehudi Menuhin in San Francisco - the 1960's
from Unfinished Journey, pages 303-304:
I remember my disappointment one day in the 1960s when some young violinists played for me in San Francisco. Among them was a black youth who predictably carried himself with lanky flexibility. I awaited revelations; but, violin in hand, he was as awkward and stiff as his white counterparts. In contrast, many of the Asian players now infiltrating our concert halls demonstrate a body - mind coordination that is halfway to technical mastery.
