Ned Rorem in Nantucket - 23 December, 1984
from The Nantucket Diary of Ned Rorem 1973-1985, page 527:
Bland fare of Beethoven on the radio, year after year, plus the smarm that goes with it by Karl Haas et alia. Is Beethoven noble? Does his art express lofty notions? Does he improve us? Has music really anything to do with goodness? Why not a program on the genius as low sensual being?
