Ned Rorem in New York - early , month unknown, 1986

from Lies: A Diary 1986-1999, page 11:

Broadcast of Elliott Carter's Fourth Quartet, a hostile, empty, cynical piece, lacking - as the Pornography Commission would say - any redeeming social value. No poetry, no grammar, and, since there's no contrast (all is hyperthyroid), no drama.
