Ned Rorem in New York - 26 February, 1987
from Lies: A Diary 1986-1999, page 67:
Spent afternoon examining Peter Maxwell Davies's The Number 11 Bus. It is something. One of its singularities, at least to American ears, is the constant violence of the instrumental canvas supporting the constant suavity of the British elocution - even at its most cockney - with those flipped R's and long vowels.
